FAQ

FAQs about Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a health discipline that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Since the bodies’ recuperative power is influenced by the nervous system, chiropractors have a particular focus on disorders of the spinal column which may disturb associated nerve function. This in turn may lead to specific pain syndromes, and in some cases, ill health.

What do Chiropractors do?

Chiropractors treat the spinal column to restore proper alignment, much like the way the dentist fixes the teeth. However, there is one major difference. The spinal column houses a critical part of the body's nervous system, the spinal cord, which is responsible for protecting the function of the nervous system. With appropriate nerve function the body can function at a more optimum level.

How can Chiropractic Help Me?

Injury, stress or chronic pain most often are the reasons people seek chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is aimed at optimising your own healing capacity rather than just relieving symptoms. This is often a hands-on medication free approach that usually involves therapeutic procedures combined with rehabilitative exercises, nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

What qualifications do Chiropractors have?

Chiropractors in Australia are trained to a high standard. To become a Doctor of Chiropractic, the candidate must complete rigorous training at Murdoch University, RMIT University or Macquarie University. Candidates in Australia will have to complete a minimum of five years of full-time study at University.

Is Chiropractic Care safe?

Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. While it's not unusual to hear of injuries from mis-prescribed drugs, drug overdoses, harmful drug combinations and erroneous treatments in the medical profession, it is extremely rare to hear of a problem resulting from chiropractic care. According to a government study in New Zealand, "chiropractic care was found to be remarkably safe".

What ages can benefit from Chiropractic Care?

All ages can enjoy healthier living through chiropractic care. For seniors, improved spinal function can mean better mobility, endurance, greater well-being and an improvement in many age-related complaints. Children and infants can also benefit, because spinal trauma can occur during birth and later during childhood activities. Most parents prefer to have their children checked regularly to ensure better spinal health.
